Cloning Environment

You will most likely want to have a few distinct environments, such as live production that your customers are using, a test environment for quality assurance, and a development environment in which your programmers are creating and modifying features.

Jelastic lets you create the environment you need including the application servers, databases, load balancers and so on - in just a few clicks.

Once an environment is created, you can easily clone it. That lets you work with multiple versions of the same environment and branch your environments as needed.

Cloned environment is identical to the original environment including all data in its databases, deployed packages etc. Thus you can use this feature in order to rename your environment (i.e. enter the desired name for the cloned environment and delete the old one).

To clone an environment just click the Clone button next to it, as shown in the picture below:

After that you can specify the name for the copy or leave the default one ({parent_environment_name}-clone{number}). Confirm your choice.

In a few minutes the environment will be cloned and ready for use:

  • environment will be stopped while cloning, so be ready for a short downtime of this environment
  • there is currently a limitation that cloning will fail, if it takes longer than 5 minutes to complete the process (e.g. due to a large amount of data on one or more of the servers being cloned). Please, contact your hosting provider for assistance, if affected by this issue. This limitation is being addressed by the development team and will be removed in future.
  • cloning environment shared within collaboration is permitted only for its owner (primary collaboration user). Until the cloned environment is shared by the owner, it will be unavailable for other users with access to the original environment.
  • storing data in Dedicated Storage Container makes it easier to handle several environments dedicated to different app lifecycle stages (e.g. separate ones for development, testing and production)
